1) "Sleep Alone" - Bat For Lashes
Lonely, lonely, lonely, 'cause my mama told me
The dream of love is a two hearted dream
2) "Ghost In Your Mind" - Black Lab
And I wanted to believe you
The lies that I could see through
But I never got between you and the ghost in your mind
3) "Say You'll Haunt Me" - Stone Sour
Say you'll never die
You'll always haunt me
I want to know I belong to you
Say you'll haunt me
4) "Silent Voices Kill" - Madina Lake
The past is a noose that you have tied my life up to.
Now I'm obsessed, I'm sick, I'm desperate, I can't move.
5) "Hallucinations" - Angels & Airwaves
And everything's here to explore,
It's all unlike, the usual,
A different place but beautiful,
And it is not quite as it seems
6) "Spectators" - The Cruxshadows
and everyone will say "I told you so"
yeah they'll all just nod and sigh
as I go down in a ball of flames
they'll just watch, I wonder why
7) "Dream Team - Lazerbeak
We’re flying with the fault lines in sight
We’re racing past the tide and all the things we plan to be are all the creatures in the sea with us tonight
8) "Man on a Wire" - Garbage
Like a man on wire
I set myself on fire
Destroyer of a dream
Trying to find a spark
9) "Scars" - Moving Units
I am the weight around you (My scars are your scars)
I will be waiting to drown you (Your scars are my scars)
I will be here
10) "You've Dug Your Grave, Now Lie in It" - Kenotia
So now here we are in this place where both of us should never have to be
We put out everything, it didn't mean we wouldn't bleed
11) "Untouched and Intact" - The Honorary Title
Maybe it's time to hold onto one side, one decision
Let go of the hand that holds me high above that great divide
12) "Finally Woken" - Jem
You see I've finally woken
From a long sleep
I'm ready to jump
To make that blind leap
'Cause I now believe
I have the power in me
I've got the faith baby
I can truly be free

Dear Yuletide Writer
Oct. 15th, 2012 09:51 amDear Yuletide Writer:
First, let me thank you in advance for whatever it is you end up writing for me. Last year was my first year participating in Yuletide, and I ended up with a couple of really great stories that made my holiday season that much better. Whatever you write for me is a gift that will make me clap with delight on Christmas, no matter what you write, I can guarantee that!
My main request for this year, regardless of which fandom you matched with me on, is pretty simple – I want women being awesome! The ways in which they're awesome are completely up to you, but whatever you write, I'd really like it to focus primarily on female characters.
( Fandom details - and potential spoilers - below: Cinders (video game), Iron Seas (Meljean Brook), Newsflesh (Mira Grant), Clockwork Century (Cherie Priest) )

snowflake challenge - day 2
Jan. 2nd, 2012 08:48 pmDay 2
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
You all know I'm almost exclusively reading in Dragon Age right now. I'm going to rec there - because I love the fandom and these stories and I think everyone should get into it the way I have. And because I read somewhat rarer pairings that need more attention. So there. :D
First, I'll finally take the opportunity to rec a fic that I read last week and ADORED. War Is Never Cheap Here, by
cherith and
serindrana. Dragon Age, Teagan/Cauthrien, set post-Origins. Summary: Bann Teagan has been corresponding on and off with the Lady Cousland for the past eight months; Queen Anora sends her watchdog, the dreaded Ser Cauthrien, to investigate. It's a rare pairing, nearly 100,000 words, and it's AMAZING. I read it on my Nook, and honest to god, I occasionally forgot I wasn't reading a published novel. It's the story of two people who were more than a little affected by a war that ravaged their country - who were on opposite sides of the conflict - and how they each have moved on (or haven't moved on). It's a fantastic romance in which sexual intimacy comes relatively easily, but emotional intimacy is decidedly more complicated. The ending legitimately made me choke up, which I can't say about many fics.
Seriously. Read it. It's worth your time.
Through These Pages, by Defira. Marian Hawke/Cullen. So, back in the fall, I was reading fic almost exclusively on the kink meme. I found the beginning of this fic and started tracking it, despite the fact that I wasn't terribly keen on Cullen at that point. This fic changed that ENTIRELY. I'm a sucker for epistolary fic, and fic that has delicious sexual tension and eventually even more delicious sex, and this one hits every single one of those buttons. Marian and Cullen are delightfully combative at first, but their anonymous letters get more and more intimate at the same time as their attraction gets more and more apparent. And then there's sex. And it's awesome. :D
Knots, by ... well, anonymous here, though I know the author has posted the first story in this series on AO3 under their name, which I can't remember at this moment. (Someone can feel free to chime in if they know, though, and I will edit!) Marian Hawke/Nathaniel Howe. The first story - "Missives" - is another amazing epistolary fic, but I'm reccing this one because it's SO HOT, I still have to fan myself when I think about it. There is bondage and dirty talk and oh god, just read it. I want to read about this Marian and Nathaniel and their sexual adventures FOREVER.
... and there. Witness pretty much all of my favorite fic tropes displayed in three amazing fics. Read them. Love them. :D

snowflake challenge - day 1
Jan. 2nd, 2012 08:24 pmSo,
tuesdaysgone linked to the Fandom Snowflake Challenge, which is a really awesome idea and one I think will be a great way to start the year (and to start posting over here again on a more consistent basis)! As it's the 2nd, I'll have to do two posts today, but you guys will forgive me for spamming, right?
Anyway...
Day 1
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator. Drop a link to your post in the comments.
Tangentially, I really want to write something in Dragon Age fandom that I feel as strongly about as I feel about the above works, but it hasn't happened yet. The zombie apocalypse story might turn out to be the one, judging by my current level of enthusiasm. Here's hoping! :D

dearest yuletide author ...
Dec. 20th, 2011 11:06 pm... just so you know, I'm going to be out of town for the holiday, with only sporadic internet access until the morning of the 27th. I know myself well enough to know that I'll be trying my hardest to get somewhere with internet access on Christmas to see what lovely gift you've left me - but, if you don't hear from me until Tuesday, don't panic! :D
Dear Yuletide Author ...
Nov. 17th, 2011 01:03 pmThank you in advance for your story, whatever you choose to write! This is my first year participating in Yuletide, so I'll try to make this letter helpful without going overboard. :)
The biggest thing to note is that right now, I'm almost exclusively interested in stories that center around women - either on their own, or as half (or a major part) of a pairing. The fandoms listed below all have some really amazing women to play with, so I don't think that should be a problem for anyone willing to write in one of them!
My general likes are many and varied, so I won't start listing things here. Specific likes for the fandoms are all below, so that should (hopefully) point you in the right direction. As for dislikes, I prefer to stay away from deathfic, incest, rape/dubcon ... basically, if given the choice, I prefer happy/hopeful stories, though a good dollop of angst never really goes awry.
On to the fandoms!
In Death (any)
I am madly, hopelessly in love with all of these characters, so whoever you choose to focus on will make me dance for joy. I'm attached to the canon pairings, so please avoid breakups or infidelity. Mostly, I just want to read slices of life with anyone being snarky and weird and awesome. Peabody and McNabb being hilarious and adorable? Banter from the bullpen at Cop Central? A social get-together with some or all of the characters having a good time together? Nadine or Mira going about their jobs during a time when Eve isn't involved? Mavis's rock star life? Eve and Roarke having wild monkey sex on one of their vacations? And those are just things I came up with off the top of my head, don't feel limited to anything I've listed - the possibilities are endless! I would read a million words of any of these people going about their lives, pick whatever scenario sounds good to you!
Toby Daye (Toby, Tybalt, The Luidaeg, May)
Another universe I could cheerfully drown myself in. This one's a bit darker than my other choices, though, so don't feel the need to follow my "happy/hopeful" direction if whatever you're writing wants to turn the other way. (Just don't kill anyone she hasn't already offed in the books, though. ;)) I would love a good Toby/Tybalt story - smut, UST, whatever you choose. Otherwise, I find the Luidaeg fascinating and would love to read a juicy gen story that explores her more in depth - her history, her relationship with Toby, her interactions with another character, whatever! And any story is made better with May, as far as I'm concerned - and the combination of May and Tybalt, whether on their own or making Toby's life harder/more irritating, would be really hilarious. :D
The Iron Seas series (Yasmeen, Archimedes, Zenobia, Scarsdale)
I literally just finished reading Heart of Steel, so seeing this fandom pop up made me clap with joy. I love this universe SO MUCH, and would read just about anything anyone wanted to explore inside it. Any and/or all of the above characters having some kind of adventures would make me a very happy panda. Gen or shippy, it's your call - any pairing/threesome would be fine by me, as long as a) a female is involved and b) it's not incestuous. I would also love to read gen about Zenobia's life as a writer, or about Yasmeen and Scarsdale's friendship, or about Yasmeen's previous adventures as an airship pirate, or Yasmeen and Archimedes' future adventures ... on and on, you get the picture. :D

Title: faster than a heartbeat
Pairing(s): Pete/Patrick, various background/past pairings
Word Count: 21,446 words
Rating: NC-17
Notes: Many thanks to both
ignipes and
prettykitty_aya, who read an early draft when I was tearing my hair out and gave me enough encouragement to get on with the damned thing already. And as always, all the love in the world goes to
tuesdaysgone, who read and cheered me on at various stages, fixed my grammar and spelling at the end, and is generally awesome in every way. :) Title is stolen from The Alternate Routes' "Carry Me Home."

Summary: Clandestine Station is the end of nowhere - a mining station located on a remote ice planet, far away from any other populated system, with no breathable oxygen and very little contact with the rest of the galaxy. In short, it's Patrick's worst nightmare ... and he's just been assigned to work there.
When he arrives, however, he finds the station populated by a surprisingly cheerful bunch of people, all of whom welcome him with open arms. Patrick fits in better than he ever expected, thanks in large part to Pete, Clandestine's de facto manager. Patrick just might have a raging crush on his new boss, not that he intends to tell him about it.
Eventually, though, Patrick gets exactly what he wanted: a transfer to a far more civilized planet. Only ... he's not entirely sure he wants it any more. When a disastrous storm strikes Clandestine, Patrick is forced to confront his deepest fears and decide once and for all - does he want to go home, or is he already there?
Notes: Many thanks to both

no_tags master list, the sorted version
Jan. 17th, 2011 08:20 pmSo,
no_tags! They have started a lovely master post of all stories and authors in the community here, but I'm just a little OCD about these things after editing the newsletter for so long. ;) So, I spent some time today gathering links and sorting them into band groupings and copying/pasting pairing and prompt info. (What? That was a totally productive use of my day!) There are a lot of stories, y'all! Most of them TOTALLY AWESOME. This has been a fantastic challenge! \o/
Many, many, many thanks to
airgiodslv for running this for the second year in a row - she's done a ton of work, gathering prompts and hunting down pinch-hitters and generally being awesome. I love seeing bandom so active - the fandom at large has stayed active over the last year or so because people care enough to prod everyone into creative action every once in a while. Those people are my fannish heroes. :D
Anyway. On to the (very long!) masterlist! Note: there are currently12 11 (maybe?) a small handful of stories as yet unclaimed by their authors in the reveal post; I will edit those stories into the list when the authors reveal themselves! (And yes, this post is public - feel free to point anyone in this direction, should you feel the urge! :))
If you notice any mistakes or omissions below, please let me know!

fuck love, give me fire
Jan. 16th, 2011 08:36 pmBack to posting things created for
fandom_stocking!
dragonsinger loves fanmixes, and after I started watching The Vampire Diaries, I decided I had to make her one. :D (Actually, TVD makes me want to make ALL THE FANMIXES. Every time I put my music collection on shuffle, I turn up another song that makes me go '... wait, that could totally be a song for a fanmix I haven't made yet.') There's even an internal chronology to the songs I chose, because I'm kind of a dork who apparently has to tell stories even when I'm not writing.
Anyway ... below, my holiday gift to
dragonsinger. Want, take, have, enjoy! :)

no_tags recs part deux
Jan. 14th, 2011 09:10 pmHey! Want some more
no_tags recs?
Poetry Makes Nothing Happen - Mikey/Ray, a futuristic military AU with cross-dressing. Yes, that sounds like a strange combination, one that made me slide past the story until someone else recced it. It's worth the read! An interesting world, one I'd love to read more of.
Write Us Everywhere In Invisible Silence - Pete/Mikey. Cute story about secret messages and the way boys communicate emotions to each other.
Copper Candy Inside - Pete/Patrick, in which Patrick is a DJ and Pete's a musician desperate to get his band on the air. I'm impressed with how well-drawn the characters are in such a short piece, it feels a lot longer and more in-depth than it is!
The Fastest Way Back Home - Pete/Mikey, nice little travel-and-touring related vignettes. I like the frantic feeling of this, how ragged they both are and how they help each other.
Breathe on your neck, make knots with our fingers - Frank/Gerard, set in early MCR, immediately post-Pencey days. A great sense of that early-band, just-scraping-by desperation in Frank and Gerard's interactions. (Disclaimer: I totally have NO IDEA who wrote this story. Really. ;))
Bringing Gravity Back - Gabe/girl!Mikey, set during Eyeball/Midtown days. The sharp-yet-easy relationship between Mikey and Gabe is really interesting, and the sex is super hot. :D
It's Raining on Prom Night - Frank/Mikey, Killjoys 'verse. I love how they took the canon references to Fun Ghoul and Kobra Kid's stunt show and took off from there! The whole thing has a great sense of dirt and desperation, like the Killjoys verse should have.
Fuck the Snow (Repeat As Necessary) - Frank/Gerard. I'm normally hesitant about present-day set MCR fic that keeps the wives and kids and still pairs the guys up together, but this one is nicely done!
Crush With Eyeliner - Ray/Gerard. Adorable and funny and awesome. Mikey is the best part. :D
... I'm still making my way through open tabs. SO MUCH GOOD FIC, you guys. I seriously can't wait for the author reveal!

more joy day - no_tags recs
Jan. 13th, 2011 07:03 amI woke up feeling a little fragile - damn those end-of-vacation blues, coupled with my unhealthy tendency to compare myself to others. But, as I read my friends list, I discovered that today is More Joy Day, and that seems like the perfect idea for a cold, gloomy Thursday, so I'm going to try spending the day concentrating on that instead. :)
First up - some
no_tags recs. I may not know who wrote the following stories, but they made me happy yesterday, so the authors deserve some props! :D
Up up down down left right left right B A start - super hot Mikey/Alicia porn, for the prompt "coming off the road." I love their easy dynamic in this story. Also, did I mention it's hot? Because it is.
9½ Things to Do With a Time Machine and Panic! at the Disco - gen, Doctor Who crossover. I laughed the entire way through this story. It's BRILLIANT. Don't miss it!
Glitter, Stars, and Matchbox Cars - Ashlee/Travis, prompt "early childhood educators." This story is so adorable, I can't possibly tell you. And I hadn't ever thought about how hot the idea of Ashlee/Travis would be, but damn if it isn't.
Smells Like Sunshine - Ashlee/Victoria, prompt "space opera." Because, well, SPACE OPERA. ♥ And the details and characterization here are just lovely.
Drums and Monsters - Frank/Gerard, prompt "vampires and werewolves, oh my!" This is the kind of universe I want a million stories in. It feels like the beginning of an epic tale.
Romantic Victories of Peter the Great - Pete/Mikey, prompt "college AU." Short and adorable. I love Mikey the math major quite a lot. :D
That's just a few of the stories I've bookmarked so far, and there are a whole bunch from last night I haven't read yet! This has turned out to be an awesome, awesome challenge so far. :D
More Joy Day. It's a beautiful idea. Let's make it happen! :)
